Maximizing Energy Efficiency with Energy Management Systems

  • 2024-09-12

What is an Energy management system (EMS)?

It provides efficient management and Cost savings of electricity expenditure in a particular premise of commercial and industrial unit by integrating hardware and software.

Multispan offers this EMS through web based IIoT system where in a user can login through personalised profile and manage physical sites & devices along with configuration feature for each device’s datalogging capability of upto 12 months period.

All expertise of Multispan in one IIoT system

  • Performance-oriented In-House Developed Energy Meters
  • In-house designed Gateway
  • Multispan-governed Cloud infra
  • Privacy with utmost User Programmability
  • User Flexibility of Budget Allocation
  • User-defined Device management

With a strong backup of after-sales support for the IIoT system, EMS by Multispan is complete with Multispan-built industry-performing Energy Meters and Wireless Gateway for smooth connection to Multispan Offered Cloud service.

To collect, analyze, and process electrical measurement parameters data through transmission network and can operate as

as a standalone web IIoT system or fully integrated with our web IIoT system through the cloud service offered by Multispan. Our electrical industry experts consistently work on Analytics and add Artificial intelligence to IIoT EMS.

PERFORMANCE WITH EASE

Multispan-offered EMS IIoT has varied applications, such as

  • Net Energy usage in terms of multiple tariffs and carbon expenditure Costs  helping end users achieve Carbon Net Zero status,
  •  Energy usage from import and export sources, energy availability monitoring,
  • Electrical protection parameters monitoring, electrical earth leakage fault detection,
  • Shift-wise energy management, efficiency, and billing of electricity,

Our EMS makes operators check on the Health of electrical equipments with optimum ease and performance

The implementation of an energy management system EMS offered by Multispan is having four critical steps.

Apart from investing in Multispan Power Quality Analysers PQM-16, To have a fully operational EMS system, it is necessary to proceed in four phases

1 - EMS Readiness: Energy Audit

As an owner of a residential building, a hotel, an office building, or an industrial unit, the process must begin with an assessment of the existing electrical usage conditions. An energy audit will map out the energy consumption of the entire building department-wise, taking into account one of the biggest consumers of electricity like heating systems, hot water, ventilation, and the manufacturing line.

This will provide operator with a clear understanding of the most usage section wise and also get to know about weaknesses in the unit.

2 - Preparation for EMS Implementation

Based on the pre-audit, an energy action plan will be designed, including:

  • Major energy-saving Objectives to achieve,
  • Identify major energy consumers.
  • Identify how to save energy through renewable.
  • Actions to be implemented and prioritization of actions: equipment replacement, installation of better insulation, behavior changes, integration of new energy through multi-tariff and carbon usage tool

This plan will also include a budget estimate outlining the defined action plan.

3 - Implementation of EMS

The necessary work is prioritized in the schedule. Every EMS operation should be started with the implementation of meter installation to track the improvements made by the energy management system and calculate the return on investment.

It is essential to proceed in a specific order: choose the right meter model, insulation, replacement of energy-intensive distribution and installing electrical protection relays, resizing of equipment, etc.

The EMS solution offered by Multispan IIoT significantly enhances the efficiency and operation of such an energy management system. Other actions, such as those aimed at changing individual behaviors, are also necessary to perfect the approach.

4 - Management and Control of the EMS

The entire value of an Energy Management System (EMS) lies in the automation of its control. The EMS software evaluates energy performance by generating key indicators. Monitoring these indicators is crucial for continuously improving the efficiency of the system.

The energy management software handles the following tasks:

  • Measuring various consumers by zone and use (HVAC, electrical distribution & offices, manufacturing area)
  • Comparing different uses with each other,
  • Identifying consumption peaks and demand management and put alarms
  • Detecting anomalies and unwanted energy leaks
  • Identifying overconsumption section-wise and making necessary installations of Electrical Protection Relays
  • Analyzing energy consumption based on periods, times of day department-wise
  • Sends notifications through Android applications and email for electrical abnormalities like voltage imbalance, earth leakage and phase missing or neutral loss, demand trip
